1Password Lets Claude Handle Logins Without Exposing Your Secrets

A new integration between 1Password and Anthropic’s Claude means the AI assistant can now fill in your usernames and passwords while you sit back. The feature, called 1Password for Claude, lets the chatbot complete multi-step tasks like booking flights or managing online accounts without you having to manually type credentials. And crucially, your passwords stay hidden from the AI itself.

1Password built a “zero-exposure security framework” that injects the needed login details through a secure channel Claude cannot see. So while the AI gets permission to use your stored info, it never actually views your password or multi-factor codes. Each request requires your approval via a single biometric prompt — a brief interruption, but far less hassle than taking over the browser to sign in manually. After every autofill, 1Password scans the page to ensure no form data remains exposed before handing control back to Claude.

“The moment an AI agent takes control of the browser, 1Password locks down automatically, limiting access to only the credentials explicitly granted for the current task,” the company said in its announcement. “Nothing else in the 1Password vault is reachable.” The feature is available now for 1Password users on Mac, across business, family, and individual plans. You’ll need both the 1Password desktop app and browser extension, plus the Claude desktop app and extension.

1Password vaults can store passwords, passkeys, two-factor codes, API tokens, and personal details like addresses. For now, Claude can only access login-related credentials — support for payment cards and identity information is expected after launch.
