AI Agents Are Big in Silicon Valley, but Most People Aren’t Using Them

Silicon Valley is betting AI agents will shape the future, but most people have never touched one. The Browser Company CEO Josh Miller went viral on X this week, saying "nobody is really using AI agents" and the general public doesn't care. He argues the industry needs to build products people actually want, not just push the technology.

OpenAI says its agent products have about 10 million weekly users, while ChatGPT and Gemini each have roughly a billion monthly users. Miller says agents are more of a technology than a standalone product. His company's most popular feature is a morning briefing in its Dia browser, made possible by an agent without users needing to know. He also criticized AI labs for sharing a narrow, sci-fi-inspired vision.
