Airbnb Sets First-Half 2027 Launch for Its AI Travel Agent
Airbnb has confirmed that its AI travel agent will reach users in the first half of 2027, following earlier hints about the project. The company shared details in its Q3 shareholder letter and on its earnings call, describing an experience built around a personalized interface rather than a conventional chatbot.
CEO Brian Chesky told analysts that trip planning differs from routine tasks like booking a table. Travel is aspirational, he said, and 80% of travelers enjoy researching trips - looking at photos, comparing homes and deciding with companions. General-purpose agents, in his view, aren't suited to that.
Instead, Airbnb's agent draws on hundreds of travel-specific components - maps, photos, comparisons, calendars and itineraries - and assembles them in real time around a guest's question. Chesky likened it to generative UI, offering the right interface at the right moment. The company says nearly 20 years of host and guest insights inform the build, and the agent will assist beyond booking, from changing a reservation to payment issues, refunds, rebooking and 24-hour safety support. Over time, Airbnb wants it to cover homes, hotels, services and experiences in one place.
The announcement came with strong quarterly results: revenue rose 19% to $4.87 billion, beating Wall Street estimates, and the company raised its 2026 growth forecast to the high teens. "Airbnb is back in growth mode," Chesky said, calling it the fastest revenue growth in more than three years.
