Anthropic’s $65B Mega-Round Signals IPO Countdown for AI Giant
May 28, 2026

Anthropic has locked in a staggering $65 billion in fresh capital, pushing its post-money valuation to $965 billion and setting the stage for what many expect will be the AI startup’s public market debut. The Series H round, co-led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, Sequoia Capital, Capital Group, Coatue, and D1 Capital Partners, also drew heavyweight institutional investors including Baillie Gifford, Blackstone, Brookfield, D.E. Shaw Ventures, DST Global, and Fidelity. Strategic infrastructure partners Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron joined as well, with $15 billion of the total coming from previously committed hyperscaler investments—including $5 billion from Amazon announced in April.

Demand for a seat at the table was intense. TechCrunch reported last month that one institutional investor offered $5 billion just for a meeting with CFO Krishna Rao. Anthropic plans to channel the funds into safety research, compute expansion for its Claude platform, and scaling enterprise partnerships. The announcement coincided with the release of Claude Opus 4.8, which improves agentic tasks, advanced coding, and self-correction capabilities. The company is also reportedly preparing a wider rollout of its cybersecurity model Mythos, previously held back due to safety concerns.

Enterprise adoption is accelerating—Anthropic’s run-rate revenue crossed $47 billion earlier this month, and the Wall Street Journal reports it expects a 130% revenue surge to its first operating profit. Altimeter Capital CEO Brad Gerstner noted that Claude’s advancements are driving adoption among demanding organizations, positioning Anthropic to lead the next wave of AI innovation. The race against OpenAI, which raised $122 billion in March at an $852 billion valuation, and Elon Musk’s SpaceX-xAI merger targeting a $2 trillion IPO, underscores the high-stakes battle for AI market dominance.
