Apple finally delivers on its promise of a smarter Siri

After two years of waiting, Apple has officially unveiled the overhauled version of its voice assistant at WWDC 2026. The new system, simply called “Siri AI,” aims to transform the tool from a basic voice helper into a full conversational companion that can handle far more complex tasks. It will arrive alongside a dedicated Siri app.

Instead of just answering spoken commands, the updated Siri can pull from current world knowledge and access information on your device, including what’s displayed on your screen. When you ask a question, Siri will show text cards with results—web links, message details, or calendar entries. The assistant now lives in the Dynamic Island on modern iPhones, with a new animation replacing the old glowing screen.

A feature called “Write with Siri” lets you draft emails or messages in apps like Mail and Messages. The assistant learns your communication style for each contact, so if you tend to send your manager short, direct updates, that’s what you’ll get. You can also swipe down from the Dynamic Island to type a query, say “Hey Siri,” or press the side button for deeper answers.

Siri now speaks with a new voice and can adjust its pace and expressiveness. System-wide dictation has also improved, with better accuracy for punctuation and capitalization. On macOS, Siri is integrated into Spotlight, letting you search and ask questions from anywhere. On watchOS, you can ask questions and take actions directly from your wrist.

Apple is positioning this update as a direct competitor to ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, marking the biggest shift for Siri since its launch.
