Apple Finally Delivers the Siri It Promised Two Years Ago

At WWDC 2026, Apple made good on long-standing AI pledges with a major overhaul of its software stack. The centerpiece is a fully reimagined Siri — now branded as Siri AI — with its own dedicated app, customizable voices, and deep integration across iPhone, Mac, Watch, CarPlay, and AirPods.

Siri AI is fundamentally more conversational. It maintains context across a string of requests, letting users talk to it like a chatbot. It can search across your device, the web, and ChatGPT simultaneously. During the keynote, Apple demonstrated a user asking Siri to research World Cup schedules and then send custom invites — all by voice.

Behind the scenes, Apple partnered with Google to build multimodal on-device models based on Gemini technology. These models understand text, images, speech, and video. Apple continues to emphasize privacy, running sensitive tasks through its private cloud compute infrastructure that doesn't store data or chat logs.

Beyond Siri, the Photos app gains spatial reframing — borrowed from Vision Pro — letting you adjust a photo's perspective after capture. A new Extend tool resizes images with AI filling the gaps, similar to Adobe's generative expand. The Clean Up tool for removing distractions has also been refined, though early demos suggest results vary.

Apple's Image Playground gets upgraded AI models for more photorealistic outputs and better editing controls. Other AI additions include automatic password updates, Apple Intelligence in Home, topic-based Safari organization, and smarter Shortcuts automations.

All features ship with iOS 27 this fall, with beta versions available this summer. You'll need an iPhone 16 or newer (plus select iPhone 15 Pro models) to run them. Siri AI launches in English only, with availability in the EU and China uncertain due to regulatory issues.
