Apple’s WWDC 2026 Reinvents Siri and Overhauls Its AI Tools

At this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple delivered its most ambitious artificial intelligence update yet—one that finally brings the smarter, conversational assistant it first teased two years ago. Outgoing CEO Tim Cook kicked off the keynote with a promise to make good on those earlier pledges, and the result is a reimagined Siri that’s getting its own app, customizable voices, and deeper integration across iPhones, Macs, Watches, CarPlay, and even AirPods.

The new Siri AI remembers what you just asked, so you can chat naturally without repeating yourself. It can search your device, the web, and ChatGPT, then take actions—like finding World Cup schedules and sending invites—all by voice. Visual Intelligence lets it understand images and videos, while improved personal context draws on your calendar, mail, and other apps to tailor answers. At launch, Siri AI will speak only English, and may not be available in the EU or China due to regulatory hurdles.

Beyond Siri, Apple’s Photos app gains spatial reframing, borrowed from the Vision Pro, letting you shift a photo’s perspective after it’s taken—AI fills in the blanks. A new Extend tool resizes images and generates missing content, similar to Adobe’s generative expand. The Clean Up feature, which removes unwanted objects, has been refined for better precision. For full AI-driven creativity, Image Playground gets new models that produce more photorealistic results and improved editing via text prompts.

In a surprising partnership, Apple teamed with Google to build foundational AI models based on Gemini technology. These on-device models handle speech, pictures, video, and text, while Apple continues to emphasize privacy through its private cloud compute infrastructure that doesn’t store your data or chat logs.

All these updates will roll out with iOS 27 this fall, following a summer beta. You’ll need an iPhone 16 or newer (plus some iPhone 15 Pro models) to run them. Other AI enhancements include automatic password updates, smarter Apple Home features, topic organizing in Safari, and more Shortcuts automations. The real test, as one analyst noted, is whether this Siri finally meets the expectations of users dreaming of a true digital assistant.
