Bank of America to customers: Keep your banking password away from your AI assistant
October 27, 2026

Bank of America is urging customers not to hand their banking credentials to an AI agent. In a customer email titled "Protecting your finances in the AI World," the bank said people should never share their username and password with another person or an outside service, "including an AI-enabled tool or agent that offers to act on your behalf."

The warning arrives as personal AI assistants become more popular and more customers hand over their log-ins. Doing so carries risks: the assistant could act on your finances without your knowledge, or the bank could mistake the activity for a break-in and lock your account. A security flaw in the assistant could also leak your credentials to hackers.

Banks are still working out how AI agents fit into finance and are reportedly grappling with unauthorized agents reaching customers' money. Bank of America did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The bank also reminded customers that they are responsible for activity resulting from access they grant. "If you do share your credentials," the email reads, "keep in mind that you're responsible for activity resulting from that access."
