British Peer Delivers Parliamentary Speech Using AI Voice Clone

A member of the UK House of Lords has become the first peer to deliver a speech in Parliament using an AI clone of her own voice, according to The Times.
Baroness Jane Campbell, who has lived with spinal muscular atrophy since childhood, lost her ability to speak due to the condition, which progressively weakens muscles throughout the body. Previously, she was permitted to bring an assistant into Parliament to read out speeches she had written.
For her address, Campbell turned to British company ElevenLabs, which runs a free programme for people who have lost the ability to speak. The company cloned her voice using artificial intelligence based on earlier interviews, the newspaper reported.
In her remarks, the baroness spoke about the importance of personal health budgets - funds the British healthcare system allocates to people with disabilities - and argued against restricting the list of services those budgets can cover.
