ChatGPT Adds iCloud Mail and Calendar Plugins

OpenAI has brought iCloud Mail and iCloud Calendar support to ChatGPT, letting the chatbot work with Apple's email and calendar services much as it already does with Gmail and Google Calendar.
To set it up, users log in with an Apple account and create an app-specific password. Once the plugins are enabled, ChatGPT can read and manage iCloud emails and calendar events on desktop, the web and iOS, whether the account is free or paid. Pro subscribers can also have Dot, OpenAI's AI agent, use either plugin.
The plugins only reach messages and events tied to Apple's services, so they offer nothing to people who don't use iCloud. They also differ from having ChatGPT interact directly with Apple's Mail and Calendar apps on macOS.
The launch highlights the complicated ties between OpenAI and Apple. ChatGPT was the first AI assistant integrated directly with Siri, but Apple's choice of Google over OpenAI to revamp its AI models, and a July lawsuit alleging OpenAI employees stole trade secrets, suggested a rift. Still, Apple's Creator Studio updates include a chatbot experience in Pages, Numbers and Keynote partly powered by OpenAI models.
