Claude Adds Personal Finance Tools for Subscribers

Anthropic is testing a new personal finance feature inside Claude, letting Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers in the US link their financial accounts for tailored money advice.

The company has partnered with Plaid, whose backend reaches more than 12,000 financial institutions, including major US banks like Citi and Chase. Claude's access is read-only, Anthropic says: "Personal Finance can't move, manage or invest your money." The tool can see up to two years of transactions and isn't built to give investment advice.

Anthropic is drawing a line between its offering and OpenAI's, pointing to an ad-free policy. "Personal Finance has no ads or sponsored recommendations, and it doesn't offer credit cards, loans or savings accounts of its own, so your money questions get a straight answer," the company says. Conversations inside the hub won't be used for model training, though privacy settings apply to anything shared with Claude outside it.

Features echo OpenAI's tool: users can ask Claude to flag unexpected fees, double-charges and bills that have risen over the year, and to generate weekly spending charts, expense calendars and budget breakdowns. It can also explain unfamiliar terms like APR.

Anthropic says it is exploring how Claude might work alongside licensed professionals and regulated firms, and is inviting banks and wealth managers to get in touch.
