Claude Users Hit by Widespread Errors Tuesday Afternoon

Anthropic’s popular AI assistant, Claude, stumbled Tuesday as users reported a sudden wave of errors across multiple platforms. According to outage tracker Downdetector, complaints surged past 2,000 by 1:27 p.m. Eastern Time, before dropping sharply as the company rolled out a fix. (Downdetector and CNET share a parent company, Ziff Davis.)
Anthropic’s own status page acknowledged the trouble just before 1:30 p.m. ET, saying it was investigating “elevated errors” affecting several models, the Claude web interface, its API, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork. The company later announced it had attempted a fix and was monitoring the results, but noted that a couple of models were still showing issues.
CNET has contacted Anthropic for more details on what caused the outage and when full service might be restored. This is a developing situation, and we’ll update this story as new information becomes available.
