Digital Transformation Pays Off: From Apparel Makers to Supply Chains, New Data Shows Real Gains
Three new reports paint a clear picture: companies that commit to digital upgrades are seeing real returns, while those that ignore supplier vulnerabilities are paying the price. Browzwear, Zebra Technologies, and Databarracks each released research this week that offers practical lessons for retailers and manufacturers looking to modernize.
Browzwear’s study centers on a six-pillar “digital mastery framework” for apparel brands and manufacturers. The report highlights Sri Lanka–based MAS Holdings, which began its digital journey in 2017 and now produces over 4,000 unique 3D styles annually for more than 50 brands. MAS built a dedicated Digital Product Creation center, embedding 3D design and virtual prototyping into its core strategy. The payoff? Faster lead times, better agility, and stronger sustainability practices.
Meanwhile, Zebra Technologies’ survey of 1,000 senior leaders found that upgrading front-line workflows with AI and automation delivers measurable bottom-line results. Manufacturers that modernized supply chain tracking saw potential profit boosts of $6.6 million, while improved checkout systems added $4 million for retailers. Half of manufacturers reported real productivity gains from updating production lines, and logistics firms that modernized picking and packing reported faster operations. Zebra’s CTO says the data proves that connecting intelligence directly to workers drives both financial gains and higher job satisfaction.
But there’s a warning from Databarracks: one in four U.K. businesses suffered a supply chain cyber incident last year, and 26% said dependence on suppliers made it hard to improve resilience. While 89% assess suppliers at onboarding, ongoing checks drop sharply. Chris Butler, the firm’s resilience director, urges companies to treat supplier resilience as part of their own business—not someone else’s problem. The message is clear: digital transformation only works when the whole chain is secure.
