Ford Explorer ST Gets a Dark Makeover with New Sinister Package

The Ford Explorer is getting a darker edge. For the 2027 model year, the Blue Oval brand is offering a new all-black appearance package for the Explorer ST trim, aptly named the Sinister Package. Priced at $1,695, the package gives the sporty SUV what Ford calls a “fully blacked-out aesthetic,” featuring exclusive amber running lights, unique ST badging, and 21-inch gloss black wheels. Despite the name, buyers can still pair the package with any available exterior paint color, meaning the look isn’t entirely monochrome unless you want it to be.
Ford says the package was inspired “By the Community. For the Community,” and it’s also bringing back the Explorer ST Experience for owners of new 2026 and 2027 Explorer STs. That program offers a complimentary one-day professional driving school, which will kick off this fall and travel across the U.S. Specific locations haven’t been announced yet.
While the Sinister Package doesn’t overhaul the SUV’s performance or add wild bodywork, the price is reasonable compared to other factory options—Ford charges nearly $5,000 just to paint the roof black on some models. For ST buyers looking to add a bit of menace without breaking the bank, this package delivers.
