Google Pics brings AI-powered design to Workspace, with a prompt-first approach

Google is stepping into the creative design space with a new tool called Google Pics, aimed at everyday visual tasks like posters and social media posts. The product, powered by Google’s Nano Banana image-generation model, will be added to Google Workspace for business customers and premium Google AI subscribers over the next few weeks.

Unlike Canva, which lets artists sell templates and graphics in a marketplace, Google Pics relies entirely on AI generation, trained on artists’ work. And unlike Adobe Express, where users design from scratch, Google Pics is built around prompting rather than manual creation. The tool includes editing features like isolating and transforming objects, modifying or translating text within images, and collaborative editing. It also lets users generate multiple versions of an image to choose the best one.

Google Pics is being integrated into Workspace, starting with Docs and Slides today, with Drive support planned later.
