One client, Chicago Protective Apparel, cut fabric waste by 10 percent and reduced defects by the same amount.

AI isn’t a buzzword here. It’s the glue. Aptean’s system flags rising defect rates or capacity gaps weeks ahead. Lectra’s software scans patterned fabric and adjusts the cutting path in real time, eliminating the waste that came from manual alignment.

Regulations like the EU’s Digital Product Passport are pushing the industry further. Brands will soon need to report up to 120 data points per product. The same sensors that monitor cutting machines now track energy use and emissions, turning sustainability from a marketing claim into a verifiable number.
