Journalists Urged to Establish AI Usage Guidelines

A prominent media manager is calling on journalists from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries to develop a set of rules governing the use of artificial intelligence in their work. According to Dmitry Gornostayev, deputy general director of the international media group Rossiya Segodnya, it is essential to have a person accountable for any errors or misinformation in articles generated with the help of AI. Gornostayev made these remarks at the SCO media forum in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, where over 25 representatives from official delegations of SCO member states are in attendance. The forum aims to strengthen cooperation between the media outlets of SCO member states, foster partnerships in the information and communication sphere, and promote a sustainable professional dialogue in the face of digital transformation in the global media space. Gornostayev emphasized that trust in traditional media is a key value, and therefore, the use of AI in journalism must be strictly controlled. He believes that having a clear set of guidelines will help maintain this trust and ensure that those responsible for errors or the spread of misinformation are held accountable. The SCO media forum is being held on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul, and its outcome is expected to contribute to the development of a more collaborative and responsible media environment in the region.
