During an interview at the Babell Literary and Cultural Festival in Porto, Portugal, Atwood discussed her experience with AI chatbots, revealing that she had tried one such platform, Anthropic's Claude, but was left unimpressed. Her attempt to use the chatbot to find information about the British detective series Father Brown ended in disappointment, as it provided incorrect answers. Atwood attributed this to the chatbot's reliance on skimmed and sampled online reviews, which often withhold key plot details. She also criticized individuals who rely heavily on AI, labeling them 'opportunists' seeking to take the easy way out. Atwood's main concern, however, lies in the fact that AI systems are only as good as the data they're trained on. If the data is flawed, the results will be too. 'Human beings are not robots, but they are opportunists, so if there's an easy way to cheat and it's hard to detect, people will do it,' she said. Atwood emphasized that even those using AI for business purposes must carefully review the results, as the technology is prone to errors.
