OpenAI Rolls Out Codex Plugins to Tackle White-Collar Tasks

OpenAI is making a bigger bet on office workers. The company just launched six new plugins for its Codex platform, each designed to handle a specific type of white-collar work—from data analysis and creative production to sales, product design, equity investing, and investment banking.

The move comes as OpenAI reports that knowledge workers now make up about 20 percent of Codex’s user base, and that group is growing more than three times faster than developers. Overall, Codex has more than 5 million weekly active users, up sixfold since the desktop app launched in February.

The plugins are available inside the Codex app and come preloaded with integrations, instructions, and context meant to mimic the workflow of a given job. They’re designed to work well out of the box, though OpenAI says they’ll improve as users customize them.

Alongside the plugins, OpenAI introduced a Sites feature that lets Codex publish its output as a hosted interactive website instead of just a local file. The company is partnering with Wix, Base44, Replit, Lovable, Figma, and Emergent to support that feature, with plans to expand the partner network.

A new Annotations tool also lets users highlight specific parts of a document or file inside Codex, making it easier to give precise commands.

These updates arrive three weeks after OpenAI launched the OpenAI Deployment Company, a joint venture backed by more than $4 billion from global investment firms. The goal is to embed OpenAI’s tools more deeply into business operations.

“AI is becoming capable of doing increasingly meaningful work inside organizations,” said OpenAI Chief Revenue Officer Denise Dresser. “The challenge now is helping companies integrate these systems into the infrastructure and workflows that power their businesses.”
