OpenAI Streamlines Leadership, Bets Big on a Unified AI Agent Platform

OpenAI has reshuffled its executive ranks once again, this time consolidating product development under company president Greg Brockman as it doubles down on AI agents. The move, announced Friday, merges ChatGPT and Codex into a single agent-driven experience, signaling a strategic pivot away from experimental projects toward core revenue streams like coding and enterprise services.

In an internal memo obtained by The Verge, Brockman stated the company will “invest in a single agentic platform” to bring autonomous AI assistants to the scale of ChatGPT. Under Brockman, four new pillars will govern product: core platform (led by Codex engineering head Thibault Sottiaux), enterprise (ChatGPT head Nick Turley), consumer verticals like health and finance (Ashley Alexander), and infrastructure, ads, and data science (Vijaye Raji).

This reorganization follows last month’s departure of AGI boss Fidji Simo on medical leave and the appointment of CSO Jason Kwon, CFO Sarah Friar, and CRO Denise Dresser to handle business operations. With an IPO on the horizon and investors pressing for profitability, OpenAI is focusing its resources on high-margin agent products—a bet that Brockman says will deliver “significantly more value and utility” to both individuals and organizations.
