Reddit’s AI Army Takes on FIFA’s Ticket Prices—And They’re Winning

A World Cup game between Jordan and Algeria isn’t exactly a marquee matchup. Both teams rank outside the top 25 globally, the stadium is in California while most of their fans live on the East Coast, and some Algerian travelers have faced visa bonds up to $15,000. Yet FIFA is charging $450 for a corner-flag seat. On the official resale marketplace, though, that same ticket recently dropped below $100—a milestone celebrated on the subreddit r/WorldCup2026Tickets.

What started as a simple ticket-exchange forum has turned into a grassroots movement armed with AI tools. With 140,000 members, the community tracks surprise ticket drops, shares price alerts, and uses homemade software to find deals. They’ve even adopted a “HOLD” strategy, inspired by the GameStop frenzy, urging fans not to buy until prices crater further.

In April, a Chicago member named Luke built SeatSidekick using Claude Code in just five days. The site scans FIFA’s ticketing backend to show real-time seat availability and price trends. Within a month, it logged over a million pageviews. Luke says it’s helped fans score better deals—like a France vs. Senegal match that dropped 25% in two weeks. “People share price drops as victories,” he says. “It’s community support mixed with fighting scalpers.”

The subreddit has also spawned WhatsApp groups where fans trade tickets directly, avoiding FIFA’s 30% resale fee. One moderator, Coleman, bought four tickets for $500 each—$420 less than the official resale price. “There’s an unspoken trust on Reddit,” he says. “The community looks out for each other.”

FIFA, facing subpoenas from New York and New Jersey over its ticketing practices, didn’t respond to requests for comment. But Luke believes his tool actually helps the organization. “I’m showing fans official tickets at prices they’re happy with,” he says. “I’m providing it business.”
