Russia's Education Watchdog: Banning AI in Schools Is Pointless

Fighting the use of artificial intelligence in schools is pointless, the head of Russia's education oversight service said, arguing that AI should serve as a tool for learning rather than a replacement for students' own effort.
Anzor Muzaev of Rosobrnadzor told journalists in Murmansk that a ban simply wouldn't work. Instead, he said, children should be taught to use AI as an assistant - not as a substitute for the work they need to do themselves.
He recalled that many once greeted the arrival of computers in classrooms with skepticism, predicting a decline in education standards that never materialized. Some countries, he noted, are now shifting exam formats from tests toward oral assessments, which makes AI use harder.
Muzaev said the whole of humanity is trying to solve this problem, and expressed hope that Russia would be among the first to meet the challenge well.
