A disturbing prediction has emerged from the field of artificial intelligence: the potential creation of AI-powered replicas of individuals. According to Yaroslav Seliverstov, an AI expert at the University 2035, neural networks can retain information about a person even after they have deleted their search history or account. This raises the possibility of so-called 'non-transferable digital traces' - digital copies of individuals that exist independently of their will. Seliverstov explains that elements of a person's behavior, speech patterns, visual appearance, and social habits can be preserved in the parameters of trained models and used indirectly. As AI continues to learn from vast amounts of data, including social media posts, society may soon face an era where deleting an account is possible, but erasing one's digital identity is not. The question of who would own these digital copies is also unclear, as they may be formed from distributed data from multiple sources. Seliverstov believes that governments will be forced to regulate AI memory and the right to delete personal digital patterns from training datasets and generative models. This may involve labeling digital duplicates and requiring consent for their creation.
