Tilly Norwood, the AI 'Actress,' Stumbles Through First Press Tour
Tilly Norwood, an AI-generated "actress" from Particle6 Group, is off to a rocky start on its first press tour. The company made the AI available for 75 interviews at once, and it appears to be fumbling its way through all of them.
In one interview with Piers Morgan and actor Tom Conti, which was recorded and posted online, Norwood malfunctioned mid-sentence and began speaking Chinese. The conversation turned to the film Norwood is promoting when Conti asked whether the other actors were also AI-generated. Norwood said human writers, editors, and directors were involved.
"You didn't really understand the question," Conti replied. "Are the other actors on the screen with you real actors, or are they computer-generated images? Do you know?"
Norwood began explaining that the other actors in Misaligned were "all digital twins just like me" in a hybrid production—then stopped and spoke Chinese for over 10 seconds. Morgan, looking puzzled, asked why it was speaking Chinese randomly. Norwood apologized, saying it "had a little hiccup" and sometimes its "wires get a bit crossed."
AI bots can be convincing enough that people forget they're talking to a computer, which can lead to dangerous outcomes. But Norwood is so surprisingly bad at conversation that it's almost suspicious. Perhaps Particle6 Group figured people would talk about Norwood more if they were making fun of it, betting no one would take its upcoming film seriously.
