Trump Calls Data Center Opposition a 'Hoax' in Surprise Call to Nvidia's Huang at All-In Summit
September 14, 2026

President Donald Trump phoned Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang during Huang's onstage appearance at the All-in Summit in Los Angeles on Monday, and the call was put on speaker. According to a video posted by an attendee, Trump said, "I'm telling you, it's all a hoax. The data centers are great, and they make people wealthy, and they make states wealthy."

The call followed a weekend essay by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei arguing for intentionally slowing model development, which drew support from OpenAI's Sam Altman and Elon Musk. Trump responded with posts on Truth Social calling those concerned about AI and data centers "Revolutionaries for a Bad and Evil Cause," saying he saw no need for additional AI regulation, and labeling the recent concerns a "hoax" and "a scam."

On the call, Trump said data centers are the "oil of the next 20, 25 years." He joked that Huang leads the world's most valuable company but "can't figure out how to put me on speaker." Trump praised AI data center construction, which relies on Nvidia's graphics processing units, and told Huang, "I'm with you all the way." He said opponents are "playing right into the hands of a lot of people that don't want to see it happen," adding it could be coming from China. Huang replied, "You're right. We're not going to let that happen, sir." Summit co-host Chamath Palihapitiya posted on X, "This was surreal." An Nvidia representative did not respond to a request for comment.
