YouTube Shorts Gets a TikTok-Style Revamp
In a bid to enhance user experience, YouTube has introduced a slew of new features to its Shorts platform. The updates, announced in a recent blog post, are designed to make Shorts more engaging and interactive. A key addition is the 'clear screen' mode, which removes distractions such as icons and text from the video being watched. This feature is reminiscent of TikTok's 'clear mode', which has been a staple of the platform for years. YouTube has also replaced the traditional 'thumbs-up' button with a 'heart' icon, allowing users to show their appreciation for content in a more visual way. Furthermore, users can now watch Shorts at double the speed by holding down the edge of their screen and lifting their finger to return to normal speed. They can also lock the speed at 2x by pressing the player and swiping down. Another convenient feature is the ability to mute videos by tapping the screen and selecting the 'mute' button. These updates bring YouTube Shorts closer to its rival TikTok, which has long offered similar features. Notably, YouTube is also removing the 'dislike' button, instead encouraging users to provide feedback through the 'Not interested' and 'Don't recommend this channel' options. By streamlining its platform and introducing more intuitive features, YouTube aims to improve the overall viewing experience for its users.
